Detroit, 22 June, (RHC)--The 2nd US Social Forum opens today in Detroit, Michigan under the slogan "Another World is Possible". More than 15,000 activists will attend the five-day event which will reflect the right to self-determination of oppressed peoples and communities.

The US National Network on Cuba (NNOC), which is the umbrella organization for Cuba solidarity groups nationwide, is featuring several films on Cuba including "Mission against Terror" about the case of the Cuban Five, "The Day Diplomacy Died" on US/Cuba relations and "Salud", a film about Cuba's contribution to health care in the developing world.

The NNOC is also organizing a series of workshops on the ALBA and the role of Cuba in the struggle for a better world plus information stands highlighting the case of the Cuban Five.

The US International Committee for the Freedom of the Five will launch, on Wednesday, an art exhibition showing original prison paintings by Antonio Guerrero, one of the Five, at the Virgil H. Carr Cultural Centre.

The opening ceremony takes place this evening after a march through downtown Detroit proclaiming the spirit of the 2nd US Social Forum.
