Detroit, 23 June (RHC)--One of the many events on the second day of the US Social Forum currently running in Detroit, Michigan from 22-26 June was the opening of the art exhibition "From My Altitude" featuring original paintings and drawings by Antonio Guerrero, one of the Cuban Five incarcerated in prison in the United States for defending his people against terrorist actions by the anti-Cuba groups in Miami financed and supported by US administrations.
The exhibition is at the Virgil H. Carr Cultural Arts Center in downtown Detroit and was attended by up to a hundred people including Detroit former Judge Claudia Marcom and with music by local group Bill Meyer and friends and troubadour David Rovics.
The coordinator of the International Committee for the Freedom of the Cuban Five, Alicia Jrapko, explained the injustices surrounding the case and asked for support in the campaign to bring about their freedom as soon as possible.
The president of the cultural center, Oliver Ragsdale, Jr. proudly announced his interest in showing this exhibtion and also expressed his support for the struggle of the Five Cubans to safeguard their country and people agains terrorist atacks emanating from the United States.
Another important event Wednesday was a workshop sponsored by the Chicago Committee to Free the Cuban 5 under the title "US Political prisoners: Leonard Peltier, Mumia Abu-Jamal and the Cuban 5". Marjorie Cohn, National Lawyers Guild, gave a detailed account of the legal case against the Five highlighting the injustices that permeated the trials and appeals from the beginning to the present.
The Forum continues Thursday with several workshops organised by the US National Network on Cuba on different aspects of Cuba's fight to maintain its sovereignty and also its contribution to worldwide peace and a better world for everybody.
