On April 17th, 2010, a campaign was launched with which women in Sweden approached Michelle Obama, asking her to engage in the cause of Adriana Pérez and Olga Salanueva, who for over 10 years have been denied entry to U.S. to visit their husbands, Gerardo Hernández and René González, unjustly imprisoned in that country.
Today, Sunday July 4th, 2010, during the anti-imperialist demonstration that takes place every year on this date in Stockholm, the Free the Five Committee announced that we are posting a second letter to Michelle Obama. This time members of the European Parliament (MEPs), seven women and 10 men, originating from 10 European countries, adhere to the appeal from the Swedish MEP Eva-Britt Svensson. We have also obtained the signatures from members of national parliaments in Sweden, Finland, Denmark, Germany and Ireland, figures from the Swedish culture, and women from all over the country.
Our commitment remains to obtain in the future the signature of many more women joining this just demand.
